General Information

Alias: Invasive Breast Panel, Breast Predictive Markers, Breast Biomarker Panel

Performed: Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm

Turn Around Time: 10 business days

CPT Codes: 88361 x 4

Performed By: Cytology

Notes: The Invasive Breast Cancer Profile includes immunohistochemical staining and quantitative image analysis of ER, PR, Her2/neu, and Ki-67.

ER and PR are used to assess tumor response to endocrine therapy. Her2/neu by IHC can be used to assess patient's eligibility for treatment with Herceptin. A reflex to Her2/neu by FISH is performed on all 2+, 3+, and triple negative carcinomas (ER, PR and Her2/neu negative).

Formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue with representative tumor. A tissue block or 10, 4µ thick, unstained, positively charged slides are acceptable for testing (this includes slides needed for a reflex to Her2/neu FISH). The cold ischemic time (time of removal from the body to the time in formalin) should be ≤ 1 hour. The time in formalin (fixation) should be 6-48 hours. Specimens should not be decalcified with strong acids. A tissue block or 10, 4µ thick, unstained, positively charged slides are acceptable for testing (this includes slides needed for a reflex to Her2/neu FISH). A corresponding surgical pathology report is required for testing. Specimens (block or unstained slides) should be kept at ambient temperature (20°-25°C) during transport to the lab. Specimens fixed using a fixative other than formalin are not acceptable for testing. If unstained slides are provided for testing, slides
